Using Fiction-writing Tools to Craft Compelling Nonfiction
Stories are stories, and the proven tools for writing great fiction will also help authors write great nonfiction. Whether you are writing biography or history, self-help or memoir, or any other type of long or short-form nonfiction it's crucial to understand story arc, "hidden" or "visual" expository, character motivation, and even the role of your antagonist (no, they aren't always the "bad guy"). It's also key to write a compelling opening and have a gripping story "hook". Bring your nonfiction book concept/query/pitch or some text from your project to share and be prepared to work on it--both rough and "final" drafts are welcomed!
