The Exquisite Cadaver Initially funded with a $500 donation from writer colleagues, production of We, The Writer began after writer and independent filmmaker Michael Steven Gregory was approached by journalist Cory J. Meacham to contribute to a literary experiment he was spearheading to benefit the Friends of the Public Library in San Diego, California. The experiment, consisting of 100 local authors selected to write one page of a story in 24 hours based only on the two pages immediately preceding their own contribution, resulted in the surrealist novella The Exquisite Cadaver.

"Excellent!"

As for his reason in making the film Gregory said, "The stereotypical impression of the writer is that of the very serious, pinched-brow soul too wrought by some internal angst to fit comfortably with the crowd. But all the writers I know who're any good remain among the most colorful, funny, engaging, and optimistic people I know.  The beauty of what we do is that, whether it's writing a 500-page novel or a 120-page screenplay or a short story or a poem, the process we share in spinning something magical from a blank, glaring page is as deeply individual as the spirit behind it. For writers—and readers—everywhere, We, The Writer allows us, in our own language, to address point-blank the questions of who, why, and what we are."

"Moves as many [documentaries] don't."

Midway through production a TV network affiliate restructured its in-house-only production policy to provide completion funding for Gregory to finish his quest. The resulting film paints a frenetic portrait of the diverse, complicated, and often times contradictory personalities and approaches behind practioners of "The Great White Art" unlike any other.

"A winner all the way from concept to execution."

The follow-ups to We, The Writer include the second and third installments of an intended 5-part "We Write" series. Again under the helm of Michael Steven Gregory, We, The Screenwriter is the latest with Me, The Producer slated to start production next year.
